May is National Bike Month, a celebration of biking as transportation, recreation, and essential to our well-being. Between Bike Durham's signature programming and events out in the community, there is something for everyone in Durham to enjoy this May!

TREK CARY PIZZA RIDE: Sunday, May 4th @ 6:00pm (Trek Bicycle Cary) - Join us and our friends at Trek Bicycle Cary for a casual, family-friendly 10-mile, 10-mph ride on local greenways with a pizza stop at Johnny's Pizza halfway. Two of the best things in this world are bikes and pizza. Let's do both. Please RSVP so Johnny knows how much pizza to make. RSVP on Eventbrite here.
WALK, BIKE & ROLL TO SCHOOL DAY: Wednesday, May 6th (Throughout Durham) - Walk, bike, or roll to school with one of the many bike trains organized across Durham Public Schools. One of our favorite days of the year!
STOP SUPER SPEEDERS ADVOCACY DAY: Wednesday, May 6th @ 8:00am-5:00pm (NC State Capitol, Raleigh) - Join North Carolina Stop Super Speeders for a full day of advocacy at the state legislature in Raleigh. The day features a demonstration and press conference from 10:00am-12:00pm, with meetings with elected officials throughout the day to urge passage of a Stop Super Speeders bill to make our streets safer. BULL CITY BIKE STAMPEDE: Saturday, May 9th @ 11:30am (Crank Arm Durham, 620 Fernway Ave) - Kick off Bike Month with Durham's biggest group ride!
Tune-ups at 10:30, gather at 11:30, roll out at noon. Family ride rolls at 12:15.
After the ride, stick around for a block party from 1 to 3:30 with a DJ, Hollywood Taco's food truck, a costume contest, and cold brews from Crank Arm. Click to Register.
BIKE TO WORK DAY: Thursday, May 14th - Bike to work in Durham! Two group rides to choose from:
Ride from CCB Plaza to Boxyard RTP with John, Gregory, and Desiree. Coffee and breakfast provided at Boxyard RTP.
Meet at 7:15 at Solite Park, roll out at 7:15 on the American Tobacco Trail, and arrive at CCB Plaza by 8:10 AM. Coffee and breakfast provided at CCB Plaza.

YOUTH & FAMILY FORUM FOR GUN VIOLENCE PREVENTION: Saturday, May 16th @ 2:00-5:00pm (ReCity Network, 112 Broadway St, Durham) - Bike Durham is a co-sponsor of this interactive, community-led event featuring youth and family engagement, community resource sharing, and student-led research presentations focused on gun violence prevention in Durham. Free and open to all. RSVP here.
ADULT & TEEN BIKE CLASSES: Saturdays & Sundays, May 16-17 and May 30-31 (Durham) - Whether you're learning to ride a bike for the first time or getting comfortable riding on Durham's streets, we've got a class for you. Classes run on weekends throughout the month. View our calendar here.
RIDE OF SILENCE: Wednesday, May 20th @ 5:30pm (CCB Plaza, downtown Durham) - The Annual Ride of Silence, presented by Bike Law NC. Join Bike Durham and friends for a slow, silent 5-mile bike ride around downtown Durham to honor and remember those killed or injured while biking on our streets. All are welcome to ride with us to show solidarity for the community of bikers and walkers who have lost their lives and whose families are forever changed. This ride occurs internationally on the third Wednesday in May. We ride rain or shine unless there are severe thunderstorms forecast. Click here to register.
