+ Make a Difference
With your support, you add to Bike Durham’s collective voice calling for safer street design. Through education, letter writing campaigns, and showing up to public hearings, we are influencing local leaders, City Council and the Department of Transportation. Our goal is for residents of Durham, regardless of where they live, to have access to a low-stress bike network of safe streets, protected bike lanes, and greenways that connects residents and empowers them to move around our Bull City.
Through our member engagement and influence on Department of Transportation and City Council, we have achieved the following to provide safer street infrastructure in Durham:
- Funding for a dedicated Vision Zero Coordinator focused on eliminating roadway deaths in Durham by 2045
- Road diets and buffered bike lanes toward complete protected network of bike lanes
- Continually making the case to the local and state staff and elected officials on benefits of safe streets and great transit
- Providing support for neighborhoods working with the Durham Department of Transportation on traffic calming measures
