Bull E-Bike Loan Program for Durham Workers
We're helping Durham workers gcommute with affordable, reliable transportation through e-bikes, training, and community partnerships.
What is the Bull E-Bike Initiative?
The Bull E-Bike Initiative is a community transportation program from Bike Durham, a Durham, NC nonprofit working to make it easier for everyone to walk, bike, and ride transit. The program helps Durham residents who face transportation barriers get to jobs, school, healthcare, and everything else that matters, using e-bikes as a practical, affordable way to get around.
Getting to work shouldn't be the hardest part of the workday. Housing costs have pushed many workers farther from their jobs, and commutes have gotten longer and more expensive. This program exists to change that.
Why e-bikes?
E-bikes cost far less than owning a car. They let you travel farther with less effort than a regular bike, connect you to GoDurham bus routes, and skip the parking hunt downtown entirely. For a lot of workers, an e-bike means transportation independence.
Who can participate?
This program is designed for Durham workers who face transportation challenges, including hospitality and restaurant workers, grocery and retail employees, healthcare support staff, custodial and security workers, and shift workers whose hours don't line up with bus schedules. You don't need any riding experience. We'll teach you.

We'll walk you through exactly what you're responsible for during orientation, including how to lock and store your e-bike safely. Our goal is that no participant is stuck with a surprise cost.

No. The bigger goal is making sure transportation is never the reason someone in Durham can't get to a job. Depending on community feedback, future programming may include bike safety education, maintenance workshops, and transportation planning support.

Durham businesses can host a listening session, share the program with employees, or explore becoming a pilot partner. There's no cost or obligation to start the conversation.
