Join us for Transit Equity Day. This year, we’ll be installing our community-built bench at a bus stop in Durham.
This year’s event will highlight community-built bus stop benches as a tangible example of what equity-focused, quick-build solutions can look like while larger transit projects move forward. We’ll also hear from a small number of community partners and share reflections on what it means to invest in dignity, access, and safety at transit stops across Durham.
Bike Durham will speak to a central reality facing our region: the funding we currently have is not enough to build the system we want and deserve. That means we cannot afford to sit on resources or wait for perfect conditions. We must plan, prioritize, and spend the money we already have to make real improvements now—so we are ready to scale up with state and federal funding when those opportunities come.
While we continue pushing for faster project delivery, this event emphasizes the importance of interim, people-centered solutions and partnerships with residents to address real community needs today.
Transit Equity Day is about values, action, and momentum—and we hope you’ll join us.
